The Battle of Yalu River
The Battle of Yalu River started on April 30 and ended May 1,1904. It was the first major land battle during the Russo-Japanese War. It was fought near the modern village of Uiju, in North Korea on the border between China and North Korea. The Japanese forces of about 42,000 under Major General Kuroki Tamemoto fought against the Russians under Lieutenant General Mikhail Zasulich. It gave the devious impression that the Japanese would be an easy foe for the mighty Russian army and that Russia would be the overwhelming victor. The Japanese were much craftier than the Russians who gave almost no effort at all to keep people and equipment hidden. The result of this battle was about 3000 men killed, wounded or missing on both sides.
